“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
Do you know fear? Like real fear? Gut-wrenching fear?
I will never forget the time that Greg lost his job for 7 1/2 months. I was trying to stay home part-time with the kids while teaching part-time. When he came home early that day, I knew something was wrong.
I remember crying and wondering how we were going to feed the kids. I was wondering if we would have food on the table many nights. I recall giving the kids socks for Christmas and some used toys that people were throwing out or selling for an extremely cheap price.
As awful as those things may sound, it was one of the most beautiful times in my life. I was able to see so many blessings surrounding us. Greg had a coworker that was constantly giving us clothes, shoes, car seats, etc. for the kids. You name it and she probably gave it to us. Our pastor and his family brought us a Christmas meal, groceries, and brand-new clothes for the kids. An anonymous donor wrote us a $300 check which we were able to deposit into our savings account.
I am still reminded of those blessings and know that anytime I face fear, God will provide. He has shown me that over and over again in my life.
Did you know that the words “Fear Not!” is listed in the Bible 365 times? Maybe we are just that stubborn and/or forgetful that we need to be reminded of this at least once a day.
My favorite “Fear not” verse comes from Isaiah 41:10. During this time, King Hezekiah was worried that the Assyrians would overtake Judah. King Hezekiah is engrossed in fear even to the point of renting his clothes and covering himself in sackcloth and ashes.
God spends many chapters before Isaiah 41 speaking through the prophet Isaiah and reminding Hezekiah how he does not have to fear. God has everything under control. Oh, how easily we often forget this. I encourage you to read this powerful story in Isaiah to help lift your spirits and to remember who is really in control! ~ Whitney
