It’s That Time of Year…Back 2 School Shopping

I know.  I know.  It’s that time of year.  I am actually grateful that I only have 2 children when it comes to back to school shopping.  Even though I have a small family, I still love saving money.  So, I’m taking my oldest son, Eli, out this weekend to do just that.  Here’s where I’m starting…

Backpacks and Lunckits

If you have a Toys ‘R Us in town, they are having a sale where you can buy a backpack for $14.99 (prices may differ) and get a lunch kit for free.  If you don’t have the money for this, then reuse what you had last year.  I have also asked the kids to wait and start out the year with their old backpack so that I could get the 75% – 90% backpacks on the clearance racks at Target.  Great way to stock up for next year as well!

I know this is probably a big one for most of you.  In Texas, we have a tax free weekend but I would save probably less than $10 so I never wait around for this.  If you are interested in shopping this sale, here is a link from Free Tax  This link provides a list of states that are participating and also lets you know you which items you can purchase.

Tax Free Weekend 2015

Last year, Eli needed a whole new wardrobe (which we may be doing again this year).  I honestly hit garage sales.  I don’t know how you feel about that, but Eli didn’t care.  He was 8.  You can also use Facebook to help you save money on clothes.  I know it’s different when you have older kids, so don’t click off the site just yet.  I still have some other ways for you to save money in the store.

So, tomorrow Eli and I will start roaming around town looking for deals.  I found this Kohl’s coupon today that I may use depending on their sales.  It’s a $10 off $30 but expires Sunday, July 26th.

I also like shopping at JCPenney’s.  For one thing, I can stock up on my Shopkicks.  Once you have 1250 kicks, you can use a $5 gift card to score some free back to school items using gift cards.  Another reason I like Penney’s is because of the coupons.  I may use the $10 off $50 Clearance items for kids.  This coupon is good until September 12, 2015.  Scroll to the bottom to find that particular coupon.

These are the two heavy hitters for me.

What about you?  Where are you shopping for Back to School?

You may be wondering why I didn’t post anything about school supplies.  I am going to write a post about how I can score FREE school supplies at Target.  Be on the lookout for that upcoming post.
